All too often people handle turning someone down who has approached them romantically in a very poor way.
From being too nasty in rejecting them or being too nice to make them think they still have a chance we struggle to get the right balance of being clear and polite. This is quite understandable as normally we do not know this romantic approach is about to happen and so are caught off-guard.
Nevertheless, we have to be respectful to another human being who has made the bold and flattering effort to want to ask you out. So, even if you are appalled or taken aback, here are the two main things you must do
- Smile, be friendly and polite
- Be clear and direct you are not interested
Risa has suggested some phrases you might use in different scenarios but as long as you do the above then they will accept the situation and not keep wondering if they still have a chance, but won’t be too mortified or crushed as you were nice to them.
If you treat others like you would like to be treated in this matter, then you should not go far wrong.
